The department of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Nottingham organises a series of workshops entitled Back to Basics in Language Teaching and Learning. Our fourth event explores the broader significance of the CEFR. This event will take place on 21 May 2026.

The session will begin with a presentation from our keynote speaker, Dr Brian North, which will challenge us to look beyond descriptors and consider how the CEFR can inspire innovation and coherence in language education. The workshop will include interactive discussions and collaborative activities, giving participants the opportunity to reflect on the CEFR’s potential and explore practical ways to integrate its principles into teaching and learning.
