This course is designed as a natural progression from the Core Surgical Skills 1 course.

After attending this course, you should have revised and gained core skills in open surgery.

Course Description

By the end of the course you should be able to:

• Demonstrate safe operating techniques
• Perform a number of advanced instrument handling skills
• Understand and appreciate recent innovations in the use of suture materials for wound closure
• Perform a urinary cystotomy in a safe and controlled manner
• Perform an end-to-end anastomosis of the small intestine in a safe and small confident manner
• Understand the pros and cons of leak testing a cystotomy and enterotomy/enterectomy
• Understand the importance of, and be able to perform, tying a surgical knot under tension
