Overview

This programme is mapped to the QIS domains – knowledge and skills framework, part of the National Standards for Neonatal Qualified in Specialty (QIS) Education (NHS England, 2025). These standards have been developed to improve and standardise the quality and consistency of neonatal QIS education programmes across England, in partnership with the Neonatal Nurses Association, the British Association of Perinatal Medicine, and the Royal College of Nursing, and encompass previous guidance from British Association of Perinatal Medicine.

Teaching days cover the following domains from the National Standards:

·       Domain 1: Personal and professional development

·       Domain 2: Overview of neonatal services

·       Domain 3. Fluid, electrolyte, nutrition, feeding and elimination management 

·       Domain 4. Respiratory and cardiovascular care

·       Domain 5. Neurological and infant neurodevelopmental care

·       Domain 6. Thermoregulation, skin, hygiene, infection prevention and infection

·       Domain 7. Admissions, stabilisation, transfers and discharges

·       Domain 8. Surgical care

·       Domain 9. Palliative and bereavement care

·       Domain 10. Psychologically informed neonatal care (PINC)

Upon successful completion of assessments and meeting programme standards, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance from the University of Nottingham.

Course Description

Module Learning Outcomes

·       Critically appraise and manage the holistic care of the highly dependent or critically ill neonate, who requires High Dependency/Critical Care in different situations.  

·       Synthesise diverse sources of evidence to establish the basis for providing high quality clinical care within your sphere of neonatal practice. 

·       Develop your ability to collaborate with peers in co-producing and sharing information. 

·       Reflect on your learning as part of planning your personal, future professional development. 

Price

We offer a complete programme for £1,000.

We also offer individual sessions as stand-alone CPD days at £100 each.

Please note that no assessment is required for these stand-alone CPD days. Attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance only. University credits will not be awarded for participation in these sessions.

Assessment Dates

The presentation (case viva) and poster (QI project) that you develop need to be submitted on the day prior to the presentation, so by:

•    Case Viva (report):   17 September 2026

•    Quality Initiative presentation:   29 October 2026  

Assessment dates are for those completing the entire programme only.
