Through taught sessions and practicals led by clinical pathologists, this course aims to improve your confidence in key aspects of laboratory diagnostics: cytological assessment of solid tissues, primarily skin lesions and lymph nodes; and fluid analysis, including urinalysis, washes and effusions.

Course Description

Topics to be covered: 

• Cytology of solid tissues (primarily skin lesions and lymph nodes)
• Cytology of fluids (effusions, washes, synovial fluid and urinalysis)
• Recent advances in clinical pathology

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

• Set up and use a microscope in first opinion practice
• Assess solid tissue cytology preparations for a range of common and more advanced lesions of the skin and lymphoid system
• Assess fluid cytology preparations for common and more advanced lesions

 This course is suitable for veterinary surgeons with an interest in small animal internal medicine and laboratory diagnostics. The course will be of particular interest to candidates undertaking the CertAVP C module in Clinical Pathology – Laboratory Diagnostics, but is open to any interested delegate including new graduates.
