Designing Effective Technical Teaching

Develop your teaching and training by building ‘constructive alignment’ into your practice to create clear and coherent learning opportunities for your students and trainees.

Course Description

Build your confidence in the effectiveness of your teaching and training by aligning what your learners need to learn with appropriate developmental activities and feedback approaches.

This online session is open to technical staff working in Higher Education and Research Education Institutions in the UK and aimed specifically at technical professionals who support others’ learning and would like to enhance their teaching or training skills through the effective planning and design of learning. To get the best from this course we recommend delegates have at least one year of technical teaching experience.

Learning outcomes:

·       Critically reflect on your current teaching and training approach

·       Discuss the main concepts of the constructive alignment approach, including ‘learning outcome’ and ‘social constructivism’

·       Practice building constructive alignment principles into your planning for learning

·       Consider how this approach could support the development of your practice and Advance HE professional recognition

This workshop focuses on the technical context of teaching and training in higher education and research environments, using real life examples drawn from technicians’ practices.

Along with the joining instructions you will be sent a pre course worksheet to complete prior to the start of the course.
