Overview

The programme is mapped to the QIS domains – knowledge and skills framework, as part of the National Standards for Neonatal Qualified in specialty (QIS) Education (NHS England, 2025). These standards have been developed to improve the quality and consistency of neonatal QIS education programmes across England. They were developed in partnership with, and are endorsed by, the Neonatal Nurses Association, the British Association of Perinatal Medicine, and the Royal College of Nursing, encompassing the previous guidance from BAPM (the work by the British Association of Perinatal Medicine) to standardise the neonatal QIS syllabus.

The teaching days have been organised to ensure the following domains from the National Standards are covered:

·       Domain 1: Personal and professional development

·       Domain 2: Overview of neonatal services

·       Domain 3. Fluid, electrolyte, nutrition, feeding and elimination management

·       Domain 4. Respiratory and cardiovascular care

·       Domain 5. Neurological and infant neurodevelopmental care

·       Domain 6. Thermoregulation, skin, hygiene, infection prevention and infection

·       Domain 7. Admissions, stabilisation, transfers and discharges

·       Domain 8. Surgical care

·       Domain 9. Palliative and bereavement care

·       Domain 10. Psychologically informed neonatal care (PINC)

Upon successful completion of the assessments and meeting programme standards, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance from the University of Nottingham.
