Japanese Level 1 Group 1 - is aimed at learners who have no previous knowledge of the language. 

 This 20 week course will introduce some of the basic structures of the language through topics related to social and everyday life in the country/countries where it is spoken. The focus is on listening, speaking and reading simple materials that introduce basic grammatical structures.

Term 1 (11 weeks): Starts: week commencing 3 October 2022 Ends: week commencing 12 December 2022

Term 2 (9 weeks): Starts: week commencing 30 January 2023 Ends: week commencing 27 March 2023

Course Description

 ProgressionAfter completion of the whole of level 1 (term 1 and 2), students are ready to move on to Level 2 next year.  

  

On successful completion of this 20 week course, students will be able to: 

  • Exchange simple greetings
  • Introduce themselves and other people
  • Give personal information about family, job or studies, where they live
  • Give the same information about other people
  • Use numbers, express dates, time, prices
  • Shop for food and clothes
  • Order meals and drinks
  • Describe existence of items and people 
  • Use basic adjectives to describe items and people and conjugate them with appropriate tense
  • Use basic verbs in masu form and conjugate them with appropriate tense
  • Write and read Japanese alphabet HIRAGANA 

 

Resources to support the course include on-line materials which will be made available by the tutor. The course structure is in line with Japanese for busy people Revised 3rd Edition Kana version. It is highly recommended that students obtain a copy of the book to assist them with their independent study at home. 

 

This course includes an internally marked assessment in the final week of term 2. A certificate of achievement will be provided on successful completion of the assessment. More information about the assessment will be provided by your tutor.
