Anaesthesia - the Next Steps; Practical Ways to Improve your Anaesthetic Practice

This day aims to build on basic anaesthesia skills and introduce delegates to more advanced concepts in fluid therapy, monitoring and anaesthetic management.  The day also gives delegates the opportunity to practice their anaesthetic planning skills and finishes with a chance to use and anesthetic simulator to recognise common emergency scenarios.

Course Description

Specific Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the types of intravenous fluids available plus the appropriate use of each type
  • Understand suitable infusion equipment
  • Be able to effectively recognise anaesthetic problems from the early signs on a monitor e.g. changes on capnography trace, plethysmograph.
  • Understand the importance of pre-empting and recognising problems commonly encountered in specific anaesthesia cases
  • Be able to list considerations for a range of cases from spay-septic abdomen
  • Highlight the importance of referral of anaesthesia where appropriate
