Ruminant Mineral Nutrition Investigation, Incorporating Copper: Deficiency and Two Toxicities (20% Alumni/Clinical Associate Discount)

The course will give the veterinarian the tools to evaluate the mineral status of farm livestock enterprises and how to manage identified issues.  The course will be spread over two days with day one focussing on the on farm inputs which will include an on-farm practical element.  A session on copper in ruminants entitled “Deficiency and 2 toxities” will take place during the evening.  Day two will focus on animal sampling and the options available to address issues.  Day 1 will commence at 11.00am and finish at 5.00pm.  An evening session will be available between 7.00pm and 10.00pm.  Day 2 will commence at 8.30am and conclude at 3.30pm.

Topics to be covered include:


  • The practical process of on-farm mineral auditing
  • Diets formulated, offered and consumed
  • Nutritional sampling
  • Interpretation of nutritional analysis
  • Copper mechanisms and analysis
  • The supplement toolbox

Required Delegate Attributes:

This course is designed for veterinary surgeons who regularly go onto farm. It is primarily aimed at extending the skills of the established farm vet.  However, it does not exclude the younger skilled specialist. This course should enable the participant to lead future mineral investigations with many skills learnt also transferable to general nutrition.
