Practical Exotic and Avian Day (20% Alumni/Clinical Associate Discount)

This one–day practical, wet-lab based masterclass will cover a broad range of emergency and critical care techniques, soft-tissue and orthopaedic procedures commonly performed in rabbit, avian and exotic animal practice. Delegates will have the opportunity to perform techniques on cadavers under the supervision of an experienced surgeon. The day is designed to be flexible and additional procedures may be incorporated at delegates’ request.

Course Description

Topics to be covered include:

• Avian first aid and emergency techniques
• Avian fracture repair
• Rabbit fracture repair
• Rabbit soft-tissue surgery
• Reptile coeliotomy (depending on availability)

Learning Objectives:

• Perform critical care procedures to stabilise emergency avian cases
• Perform fracture repair on avian long bones
• Perform fracture repair on rabbit long-bones
• Perform a variety of soft-tissue surgeries in rabbits
• Perform a reptile coeliotomy (where available)

Required Delegate Attributes:

This course is designed for veterinary surgeons with all levels of experience. It will provide invaluable experience for those who are new to avian and exotic animal surgery. The course would also be of value to those veterinary surgeons undertaking further professional qualifications exotic animal medicine.
