Course Description

Topics to be covered include:


• Biology, husbandry and hospitalisation
• The avian consultation
• Diagnostic techniques
• Therapeutics, emergency and critical care
• Feather destructive behaviours
• Approach to the sick pet chicken
• Anaesthesia and surgery techniques


Learning Objectives:

By the end of the course the delegates should have an understanding and ability in the following areas:
• Husbandry requirements of commonly encountered avian species
• Perform a thorough and informative avian consultation
• Understand and select relevant clinical tests to achieve a rapid diagnosis
• Triage and stabilise emergency cases
• Safely anaesthetise and perform surgery in birds

Required Delegate Attributes:

This course is designed for veterinary surgeons with all levels of experience. Delegates are encouraged to discus their own cases and open discussion is encouraged. The course would also be of value to those veterinary surgeons undertaking further professional qualifications in exotic animal medicine.
