German Level 4

German Level 4 is aimed at students who have completed the German level 3 evening classes or who have equivalent previous knowledge.

**Please note** - The full level 1 course is 20 weeks and costs £230 (students) or £250 (staff and members of the public). The cost of the course is split into two instalments. First instalment is required to book your place on the course. The second instalment is due before the start of the spring term.

Term Dates:

Term 1 - Starts week commencing 9th October 2017 - Ends week commencing 11th December 2017.

Term 2 - Starts Week commencing 29th January 2018 - Ends week commencing 30th April 2018. (Easter break 26th March 2018 to 22nd April 2018 - there are no classes during the break)

Course Description

Classes will take place on Wednesday evenings between 7.00 and 9.00pm.

  On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 

  • Make first contacts and get to know one another
  • Discuss modern means of communication
  • Discuss professional life
  • Discuss aspects of daily life, for example stress on the road
  • Discuss Sunday work
  • Discuss stereotypes and prejudices about Germany
  • Discuss family patterns and family celebrations
  • Discuss emergency situations and services
  • Discuss the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification
  • Understand and use an increasing range of tenses: present, past (imperfect, perfect and imperfect), the subjunctive, the passive form
  • Enhance their confidence with relative clauses
  • Enhance their knowledge of verb constructions
  • Use comparative and superlative forms confidently
  • Enhance their knowledge of indefinite pronouns and articles

Students will be required to purchase a text book.
