Course Information

BSL

Level 3 British Sign Language Part One is aimed at students who have completed British Sign Language Level 2 or have equivalent knowledge.

Any external students who have not completed Level 2 at the University of Nottingham will be asked to come for a short assessment of their current level before the start of term.

The full course is 33 weeks. The cost of the course is split into three instalments payable before the start of each term.

**Please note** This course fee DOES NOT include entry fees for the Signature BSL Level 3 exams. If you would like to take the Signature exams there is an additional charge of £165 payable during booking.

Term Dates:

Term 1 (11 weeks) - Starts week commencing (w/c) 2nd October - Ends w/c 11th December 2017

Term 2 (9 weeks) - Starts week commencing 22nd January 2017 - Ends w/c 19th March 2018

Term 3 (13 weeks) - Starts week commencing 23rd April 2018 - Ends w/c 16th July 2017

Course Description

Classes will take place on a Monday evening between 6.00 and 9.00pm.

 On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand key features of BSL
  • Know a range of sign language sentence structures, applying signs and set phrases in varied work or social situations
  • Understand a range of BSL structures, facial expressions, mouth patterns and use of space to express meaning
  • Understand social interaction
  • Understand signed communication in a range of familiar work and social situations
  • Understand a broad range of vocabulary
  • Understand a range of grammatical forms
